Return to Krista's Korner

"Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the well being of our own children is intimately linked to the well being of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, someone else's child will perform it. When one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will commit it. The good life for our own children can be secured only if it is also secured for all other people's children. But to work for the well being of all children is not just a practical matter-- it is also right!" - Lilian G. Katz, Phd.

IEP Update

I can't believe it. After years of doing battle with the school regarding Konal's educational progress and accommodations, this was the most painless, most useful IEP meeting we have ever attended. The special ed teacher is making sure everything goes into the IEP that needs to be there for the high school. Konal is getting re-evaluated and everything is being done with transition in mind. The school is focusing more on concepts than content for his learning evaluations.

Konal sat in on half of it, and we made him blush furiously for our continous praise of how well he is doing and how much he has matured. We still have a long way to go with school issues, but I have hope.

Steve will be enrolling Konal at his neighborhood High School this next week for his Freshman year in the Fall. This is important, because it leads up to us announcing that we are swapping physical custody this summer. It is killing me to think of not living with him, and I am worried about the two of them having a hard time at the same time, but Konal's maturity level plus the fact that I will be there for support, will make it work. Aidan is staying with me, since the boys are having some significant sibling relationship issues at the moment. If it works out, this changes everything. Still a lot of logistics to figure out, but we are on our way.
