Return to Krista's Korner

"Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the well being of our own children is intimately linked to the well being of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, someone else's child will perform it. When one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will commit it. The good life for our own children can be secured only if it is also secured for all other people's children. But to work for the well being of all children is not just a practical matter-- it is also right!" - Lilian G. Katz, Phd.

Pride & Sorrow

Konal called me a couple of hours ago. He was riding with his dad and cousin when they were rear-ended. Konal swears he is OK, but his dad is injured and they are still waiting to hear.
The first call, he told me I didn't need to come to the hospital, and that his uncle was on his way. He was very calm and collected, so I took him at his word. Aidan called me a bit later and asked if I heard what had happened. He sounded very small and scared. He had a lot of trouble after our accident last year.
The poor boo wasn't sure he wanted to ride in cars anymore.

I called Konal back to check on him, and he told me most of his paternal family was there, and that his cousin was being checked out. His dad was still in the ER area.

I am so sad and worried as a mother. I hope their father is OK. Even though we have been divorced for a while, I still care for him and we partner together when it comes to the boys.

At the same time, I am so proud of my young man. He never sounded so grown up, calm and responsible before. I know he must be worried, but he is doing OK, and (gulp) doesn't need his mother at the moment. He may need me later, but right now he has the people he needs around him and where he needs to be.

7:45 PM Update: Just spoke to the boys' dad. He has had a CAT scan and xrays. He has a possible spinal fracture and they are waiting to find out if he will be admitted to the hospital. The children are fine and with their Aunts and Uncles.

10:28 PM Update: My Ex is home from the ER. That is still all I know.
