Return to Krista's Korner

"Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the well being of our own children is intimately linked to the well being of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, someone else's child will perform it. When one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will commit it. The good life for our own children can be secured only if it is also secured for all other people's children. But to work for the well being of all children is not just a practical matter-- it is also right!" - Lilian G. Katz, Phd.

Dreaming

So today on one of my cross stitch lists, I read an interesting question of the day:

Date: Sep 23, 2005 8:59 AM
Subject: [cross_stitch_exchange] QOTD: Your Own Room
Today's question is more for fun... dreaming... brainstorming!  Pretend you could have a room in your house for your stash.  Tell us what your room would be like.  What kind of cupboards/shelves/storage space/furniture would you have?  How would you set it up?  Maybe some of you already have a room like that... What is it like?

This got me to thinking about my dream house.  I never realized I had such a clear picture in my head.
Here is the answer I gave to the group:

My dream house has two different rooms.  One is the laundry room that is also the utility room.  It would have cupboards, an ironing board, sorting area, hanging/drying racks and a large counter for folding/ other uses.  I am sure all of you could see the usefulness of that kind of work space! Then I would have my craft room/Office.  Large L-shaped wood desk in one corner, with plenty of space for computer, accessories and writing.  A wood filing cabinet to match.  A large bay window with a window seat at one end to let in lots of light and to read in.  An easy chair with my floor stand and ott lite in another corner.  A decent stereo system.  I would have bookshelves all along one wall, and have a custom closet place come in for stash storage-   I could use shoe cubbies, those long flat drawers for jewelry, regular drawers and cupboards all for stash.  Plus a coat bar for fabric and clothing based crafts.Wood floors, a soft yellow paint color with a decorative finish and a nice floor rug....   sighhhhhhhhh   I can see it in my head....

My dream house is an older one with a lot of personality.  It has to have a big yard for the kids to play, a place for me to garden (so, it is probably NOT in Phoenix!)   Someday!  Never give up hope, right?
