Return to Krista's Korner

"Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the well being of our own children is intimately linked to the well being of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, someone else's child will perform it. When one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will commit it. The good life for our own children can be secured only if it is also secured for all other people's children. But to work for the well being of all children is not just a practical matter-- it is also right!" - Lilian G. Katz, Phd.

Self pity sucks

I just reviewed my last post and realized just how much I am whining. Sunday was a very bad day, and we have several broken items, including Konal's glasses. There is a silver lining- a person who didn't do a very good job is getting their just desserts.
Because I am lazy, I am copying some recent e-mails as an update. I am bad :) At least I am editing for relevance.....

Our weather is going to be awesome this week! This may be the only time I like living in Phoenix.

Konal got his grades on Saturday. I am very happy about his grades. Unfortunately, he refused to do his homework last night, and that is one of the main reasons he fails- failure to turn in work. So we will see. I have a child study team meeting scheduled at the school on 1/24. We are working on getting him an IEP, or at least a 504 plan. The school has been reluctant to put anything in writing. Konal needs some assistance in learning to organize, break down larger assignments into pieces and in staying on task. Because of his intelligence, the school doesn't want to accommodate. I am being slow and patient, because I see things from both points of view- mine and the school. The school is not deliberately stonewalling me. They just have different priorities than I do.
We are having problems with Konal's teacher because she is much older, very old school and unwilling to bend and accommodate. I tried to chalk up to stylistic differences until she criticized Konal in front of me about his bathroom issues. We had Konal evaluated in first grade and will have him evaluated again this year.

I got some of my cross stitch projects online. That is my main activity while I am stuck on the couch. It is my relaxing thing. I normally have everything set up around our rocking chair, and when I sit and watch TV I work on it. During the school semester the projects rarely come out. Sometimes I get tired of the big project, so I work on smaller ones for a break. I find it very relaxing though. It is always a sign I am overwhelmed when I stop stitching. I had the boys pull all my stuff over to the couch so I had something to do will I am stuck here :) I also do needlepoint, free embroidery, lucet, hardanger, and ribbon embroidery. I like to play with needle and thread. The ironic thing is that I can't sew....

Aidan's birthday is fast approaching. Hard to believe that on Feb 27 he will already be 7. Time flies.
